    We All Come From Tribes

Transcript of a talk in 1996

Below is a transcript of a talk given and edited by John Trudell. The talk took place on March 13th , 1996, at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco. The text was transcribed by Colin Bosen before John edited it for publication. The event was produced by Neil MacLean, and the UUs for a Just Economic Community. Rosemary Cambra, Chair of the Muwekma Ohlone, introduced and shared her appreciation for John and the Occupation of Alcatraz by the Indians of All Tribes.

The UUs for a Just Economic Community helped print 500 copies of the text and we gave them away to UU ministers and activists at a Social Justice conference in Washington DC in 1999 at which John was the keynote speaker. John also led a three hour group meeting the following day. On those three occasions I worked closely with John. He changed my life, including guiding me to make three trips to Clan MacLean territory to learn about the process of alienation in my own line. I will thank him forever.

I don't know of many transcripts –I don't know of any transcripts–, and doubt if any other was edited by John. I'm sharing it here in the prayer that we can all continue to learn and think coherently.
